Jon tackles Oswald's route his way

The former hill shepherd behind a successful Tynedale tourism business has turned a long distance trail into a series of one day walks.

Jon Monks, proprietor of Shepherd's Walks, decided to make the recently opened St Oswald's Way more accessible to a wider range of abilities.

His cusomers can now cover the 97 mile route, stretching from Holy Island down to Heavenfield on Hadrian's Wall, in bite-sized chunks.

"We have been taking people on day walks for over five years now, and this year we thought we would try someting a little different to complement our exisiting walks programme," said Jon.

"Thanks to a series of day-long walks run throughout the year, people will be able to enjoy a linear walk along what I think is the best long distance trail in the region."

Shepherd's Walks, which operates out of premises at Kirkharle Courtyard has enjoyed a rising profile of late.

Last year Jon was featured on two popular television series - The Dale Diary, with Luke Casey and Countryfile, with John Craven.
