Take a stroll with a shepherd

A long-distance walk exploring north Northumberland is to become more accessible this year.

Shepherds Walks, run by Jon Monks, is organising a series of day walks to discover St Oswald’s Way.

The 97-mile route starts at Holy Island, passes down the coast to Warkworth and heads inland to Rothbury before going over the Simonside Hills on its way to the end at Heavenfield, on Hadrian’s Wall.

Jon said: “We have been taking people on day walks for over five years now and this year we thought we would try something a little different to complement our existing walks programme.”

“We are going to meet each time at the end of the proposed days walk along St Oswald’s Way and be taken in a minibus to the starting point.”

“The walkers can then enjoy a linear walk along what I think is the best long-distance trail in the region.”

The series starts on Sunday, April 13 with the first part of the route from Holy Island to Fenwick. The six-mile section will start at 11 a.m. The walks cost £11 per person.

The next week will be on Sunday, May 11 and be from Fenwick to Belford.

The series will continue on Sundays, June 15, July 6, July 27, August 17, August 24, September 7, September 28 and November 2.
