walk notes

This is the fourth section of the 52 mile Roman Ring, which explores the area to the south of Hadrian’s Wall.

From Haydon Bridge there is a short climb to Fell Lane before reaching the Stanegate Roman Road built in AD 71, which runs from east to west and formed the original northern frontier before the building of Hadrian's Wall.

As you continue on you will reach and pass through the lovely village of Fourstones. Fourstones was the site of the first official Boy Scouts camp held by Lord Baden-Powell in 1908. The camp was at Carr Edge Farm and a monument stands in the woods nearby.

After dropping down to the South Tyne and crossing it at Warden Bridge you are treated to the joining of the North and South Tyne before passing under the A68 before continuing along Tyne Green.

A superb days walking.
