walk notes

This walk is part of the Rothbury and Coquetdale Walking Festival

This great walk initially follows the route of the old Rothbury Branch line, which ran from Scots Gap to Rothbury. The line was opened in 1862 and really opened Rothbury up to the rest of the region enabling products to easily get in and out of the village and surrounding farms. The railway was closed to passengers in 1952 and eventually closed in 1963.

After following the old railway line for a while you will then climb up over Garleigh Moor and get a brilliant overview of the land this superb line it passed through and see firsthand what a superb engineering feat it was.
