walk notes

The currently incomplete refurbishment work on Tyne Pedestrian Tunnel means that it remains closed and will definitely not reopen in time for the 20th December 2015 walk.

Consequently we are rerouting the walk but starting from the original location.

Option 1.  If the weather and sea state permit the opening of both the North and South Tyne Piers we will explore the area around the mouth of the River Tyne, including North Shields Fish Quay, and its little known contribution to the former whaling industry.

On a clear day the views from the end of the Tyne piers are stunning, north up the Northumberland coast as far as Newbiggin and south down the Durham coast to the North Yorkshire Moors.

We might even fit-in the North Shields Heritage Trail and the odd hot drink too along the way.

Option 2.  If option one is not possible we will stretch our legs along The Leas as far as Marsden Grotto, near Souter Point, for a lunchtime pre-Christmas drink and return.  N.B. Travel Pass still required for the North Shields Ferry.
