walk notes

This stunning guided walk starts in the Harthorpe Valley before climbing to get some great views all round. A more difficult walk for those who appreciate a challenge.

According to one source the Harthope Valley was formed by a geological fault and then was scoured out by successive Ice Age glaciers.

You will then be guided up Hedghope Hill (2356 feet) slowly, as it is steep in places, but during the climb you are treated to some great views of The Cheviot.

These two mountains once formed part of a great volcano that erupted over 4 million years ago and rocky crags along the way date back to this period.

From the summit of Hedghope we cross some open access ground before descending back to the Harthorpe Valley itself, which you will be guided down for the return journey.

As we pass down the upper part of the valley Herons can often be seen.
