walk notes

After meeting at either -

Rothbury - 7.30 am

Kirkharle - 8.00 am

Hadrian's Wall - Any car park on military road - 8.20 am

You will then be transferred with the rest of the group to Ribblehead in the Yorkshire Dales (approx 2 hours journey). This will be in the Shepherds Walks people carrier and it gives a great opportunity to ask all the questions you have about the days walking and really get a good understanding of the days walking ahead of you.

From Ribbleshead you will be guided up the best route on Whernside, the highest of the three peaks (2416ft, 736m). I have walked up this mountain many times and this circular walk is truly stunning. It is a gradual climb, initially following the Settle - Carlisle railway before you climb up via Slack Hill and Knoutberry Hill to the long summit ridge, with spectacular views before reaching the summit itself. 1,640ft of ascent in total.

At the summit it makes for a great photo opportunity of the first of the three peaks. A real sense of achievement.

After lunch on the summit we will continue along the ridge before dropping back down to Ribblehead via a circular route taking in some lovely farmland before passing back under the stunning Ribblehead Viaduct.

There will then be a transfer back to Northumberland.

Transport to and from the Yorkshire Dales from Northumberland is included in the price. If you would like to meet us in The Yorkshire Dales, rather than meeting us in Northumberland please knock £25.00 off the price. The non transport version of this ‘away day’ can only be booked over the telephone – 01669 620044
