walk notes

This walk takes in the impressive Windy Gyle and offers some stunning views into Scotland and across the Cheviot Hills.

After meeting your guide in the Coquet Valley you will be guided up to Windy Gyle (2043 feet) from where, in fine weather, we will be able to identify the major summits in the Cheviot Hills..

From Windy Gyle you will will be guided along the Pennine Way (Border Fence) passing a cairn, originally Bronze Age, but named after an English Lord shot dead on a 'truceí day during the lawless Border Reiver times of the late 16th century.

From the Border Ridge you will be guided down an old 'drover trailí once used for bringing sheep from Scoltland to markets in Newcastle and Hexham.

At the end of the walk we can take in tea and homemade cake at the Barrowburn Tea Room (highly recommended but not included in the price of the walk).
