Guided option - Blencathra Challenge

If so then now’s the time to enrol in this testing adventure that takes in one the best known of the Lake-District’s mountains Blencathra (Saddleback) and three other Wainwright’s Bannerdale Crags, Bowscale Fell and Souther Fell. The starting point for this just under 25k challenge walk (you can run if you want to) is Threlkeld Cricket Club; ideally placed on the A66 where we’ve arrange free parking for participants (car sharing recommended).

The starting point for this just under 25k challenge walk is Threlkeld Cricket Club; ideally placed on the A66 where we’ve arrange free parking for participants (car sharing recommended)

After registration & crossing the A66 with care you will be guided through the popular village of Threlkeld and begin the challenge with an ascent Blease Fell and thence to Blencathra summit at 845m (2770 ft). From the summit you cross the plateau and descend above Foule Crags to make your way to Bannerdale Crags. Leaving the summit you will be guided along the ridge path with stunning views over the Eden Valley & Pennines as you make for Bowscale Fell before you drop down to Bowscale Tarn as you make for  a checkpoint at the village of Mungrisdale

Here you will get an opportunity to refresh yourself and take in the achievement so far before you set out on the second stage of this adventure with the worst behind you by ascending Souther Fell. Now we descend to the col above Mousthwaite Comb where we drop down to a footpath that returns us to the village.

During the walk you will pass through checkpoints where refreshments will be available; the walk is approximately 24.6k (15.3 miles) with 1413m (4635 feet) of both ascent and descent and presents a true challenge for those who like to test themselves, their navigation skills and their fitness against the mountains.

Please be aware it is no longer possible to order T shirts for this event. The drop in price reflects this. It may be possible to buy T shirts at the end of the event.
