walk notes

The Derwent Walk Country Park is a mixture of woodlands, meadows, wetlands, riverside and reclaimed industrial sites all linked by the Derwent Walk.

Starting from Thornley Woodlands Centre the walk will take us through Paddock Hill Wood to the old railway track-bed where we will follow the track towards Rowlands Gill.  At this point we will double back and pass over Nine Arches Viaduct, which is a great place to spot Red Kites.  We will continue along the track below Hollinside Manor (which we may visit) before continuing on to Swalwell Visitors Centre.

From here we will take an alternative path back through Derwenthaugh Park back to Thornley Woodlands Centre.

This is an interesting, varied and flat walk which will kick off our 2016 Nordic Walking Programme and we hope you will join us.
