walk notes

This walk takes in part of the St Cuthberts Challenge Walk.

We start in Kirk Yetholm, which is the end of the Pennine Way.  We walk out along the Pennine Way towards the point where the Pennine Way departs from St Cuthberts Way.  We then follow the Pennine Way towards Pipers Faulds.  At this point we take a bridleway under Kip Knowe, alongside the Clifton Burn to Clifton village.  From this point we join St Cuthberts Way and follow it up to the summit of Wideopen Hill.  This is the highest point on the St Cuthberts Challenge Walk.  Here we will stop for lunch and admire the vistas of the surrounding Scottish countryside and the border ridge to the East.

After lunch we will retrace our steps back along St Cuthberts Way to Duncanhaugh which is the location of Checkpoint 1 on the Challenge.  From here we take the path round the back of Town Yetholm and on towards our starting point at Kirk Yetholm.

This walk gives a flavour of the St Cuthberts Challenge and gives us an opportunity to really test our Nordic walking skills on a real hill.
