Map and Compass in the Hills

This course builds on your existing map and compass skills and is ideal for those who have attended the introductory course (i.e. it is not for beginners).


You must be able to -


1. Read a map



2. Create a  grid ref



3. Use a compass


This is a practical course starting from the Simonside forest  main car park, Northumberland.


The day will consist of a journey through the forest and out onto the Simonside Hills finishing with a crossing of the Simonside ridge to Lordenshaws.  A number of basic techniques will be refreshed and practiced 'on the hill' and a number of unusual and hidden features in the landscape will be visited. The course will take place regardless of the weather but the final route choice will be dependant on conditions.
