Gategarth Farm car park, grid reference NY194150. There is a £2.00 charge to park here. From Buttermere drive South along the B5289. The car park is situated just South of Buttermere Lake on the left-hand side.
This spectacular walk takes in the wonderful ridge that runs to the West of Buttermere and Crummock Water.
From the South end of Buttermere you climb steeply and gain height quickly passing Blackbeck and Innominate Tarn, the final resting-place of Alfred Wainright before reaching Haystacks, his favourite summit.
The walk takes in High Crag, High Stile, Red Pike which are all linked by a rocky ridge which gives you a fantastic feeling of height and rewards you with some of the finest views in the Lake District.
High Stile is the highest summit on this walk rising to 807 metres.
You then drop down to Scale Force. This waterfall is one of the finest in the Lake District, with a drop of 170 feet, before you drop down and follow the shores of both Crummock Water and Buttermere.
This walk is strenuous, so please be prepared.
