From Grasmere travel South down the A591. The car park is situated on your left just before you reach Rydal Water.
This short walk explores Wordsworth’s country. Wordsworth lived at the bottom end of Rydal Water at Rydal Mount. This walk takes the old ‘Coffin Trail’ under Nab Scar high above the road to his old dwellings. Rydal Mount is open to the public so if you wish to visit it please add a little extra time on to this walk.
The walk then drops down and runs along the shore of Rydal Water, one of the smallest lakes in the region. As it is so shallow it is an ideal place to spot a Heron, maybe even perching on the aptly named island, Heron Isle.
The walk is good under foot, but strong shoes are recommended.
