Capricorn Mohair Socks - The sock story

Capricorn Mohair Socks - The sock story

Wed 12th December 2012

Back in 2004 a gentleman gave me a pair of socks. I thought they were so good that three years later I bought the business from him - it’s true!

I did (and still do) run Shepherds Walks and the previous owner of Capricorn Mohair Socks gave me a pair and said ‘see what you think of these as a walking sock’. I pulled them on and I have never walked in anything else since (not the same pair I might add).

Before buying the sock business I initially started selling them through our Shepherds Walks web site, then in our shop in Northumberland. There is something ‘special’ about these socks; this is what the customers keep telling me.

So when the opportunity arose to buy Capricorn Mohair Socks I jumped at it and from that day on the sock business has gone from strength to strength. So why are they so good?

Probably the best socks you will ever buy.

Due to Mohair’s unique properties, the socks made from this luxury fibre have all the properties that you want in a pair of socks. They are warm and comfortable, hard wearing, machine washable, and best of all they do not smell after use!

Because all the socks are knitted in the UK these will probably be the best socks you will ever buy.

Warm and Comfortable.

Mohair is a fibre that is well known for its warmth and comfort properties.  It therefore makes socks that are ideal when you want warm and comfortable feet.

Hard Wearing.

Mohair is a very hard wearing fibre and is used for fabrics in aircraft seats for this reason. Many of our customers tell us that they have purchased “good quality” socks from well known stores and they have worn out within 3 or 4 months whereas their Capricorn Mohair socks are still wearing well!

Machine Washable.

You can wash your Mohair Socks in a washing machine on a warm wool wash cycle, without worrying about excessive shrinkage. When we have a stand at outside shows, it is not unusual for customers to proudly bring their Capricorn Mohair socks purchased the previous year and show us how well they have worn and washed! Our only complaint is that people say they don’t wear out, so they don’t need any more. I would far rather have that than people complaining that they have worn into holes.

Do Not Smell after use, it’s true!

If you look at wool under a microscope you see little burrs. These burrs provide a hiding place for the bacteria that make wool socks smell. Mohair is a smooth fibre and has no hiding places for bacteria and that is why Mohair Socks do not smell!

This always turns into a bit of a joke when somebody buys a pair of socks for their husband, wife, daughter or son and that they are going to prove us wrong. They then ring up, often shocked, saying they can’t believe it, they no longer have smelly feet.

What customers say about Capricorn Mohair Socks

I love your socks!  I first bought a pair in Wales and since then (2008 or so) I have ordered other colours and wear them all winter.  They are my favourites.  Thanks so much.

Thank you for your great products.

Many thanks for the socks just what the feet require, your advice on sizing was most welcome. I think most of my socks will now be of goat origin.
Brian Hayter

Just a note to say I bought a few pairs of your great walking socks at Chatelherault Country Park.
These are the best socks I have used. I usually buy Brasher or Bridgedale but will be buying your socks from now on.
Thanks
Jane Knox

I bought a pair of your socks when visiting the area in September. I would just like to compliment you on the quality. In the recent cold weather they have been superb. I have just ordered 4 more pairs.
Chris.

I am a great fan of your soft-top ribbed socks with mohair and have several pairs in regular use.
Kind regards
Marilyn Jackson
