Coastal Challenge Walk 2011

Coastal Challenge Walk 2011

Wed 18th May 2011

On Monday 2nd May over 200 walkers set out to complete the first ever 26 miles Coastal Challenge Walk.

Whilst the rest of the world were enjoying a well earned bank holiday lie-in the hardy bunch of walkers checked in at Alnmouth at 7.30 a.m. before being bussed up north of Bamburgh to start their epic journey south along the Northumberland Coastal Path (North Sea Trail).

The weather could not have been better as everybody walked (and ran) at their own pace, passing through checkpoints along the route.

With over 50% of participants from outside the region what better day to show off this stunning coastline than a sunny day in May.  The inspiring coastline they were covering made a deep impression on all the participants.

Bamburgh, Seahouses, Beadnell went well before a few of the participants could not resist a quick drink at Low Newton. From there they past Dunstanburgh Castle, through Craster, Boulmer before eventually returning to Alnmouth and a well deserved barbeque at Alnmouth Cricket Club.

The feedback received was brilliant with one of the participants saying ‘The stunning scenery   was the thing that set this walk far above so many other walks I have done - the staff were without exception friendly, cheerful and supportive and really contributed positively to the enjoyment of the day’.

With the 7th May 2012 being set for next year’s event and people already booking it is certainly one for the diary and it leaves plenty of time to get some training in.
