Coastal Challenge Walk 2014

Coastal Challenge Walk 2014

Fri 9th May 2014

Just less than 250 people took part in the annual Northumberland Coastal Challenge walk on the Bank Holiday Monday.

People came from all over the country to take part in this 26.2 mile walk which has grown in size over the past four years. After checking in at Alnmouth all the walkers where bussed to Budle Bay, North of Berwick. From here the participants set off on their journey along one of the best coastlines the UK has to offer, as they passed such iconic sights as Berwick Castle and Bamburgh Castle as the walkers made their way back to Alnmouth.

The weather was ideal for walking with it staying dry and it not being too warm. Jon Monks from Shepherds Walks, who organised the event said ‘It is great to see about 70% of people on the event came from outside Northumberland with many of them having a short break in the region both before and after the walk’.

Many of the participants used the event to raise money for charity and if last year is anything to go for just over 100k will have been raised for good causes.

The next Challenge Walk Shepherds walks are running in the region is the Cragside Challenge Walk, which takes place at the end of June.
