Outdoor Skills for 2013

Outdoor Skills for 2013

Thu 27th December 2012

What if? The question that often gets asked by friends and relatives to anybody who goes out and walks on their own or with friends in the lovely countryside Northumberland has to offer, especially the high hill country of the Cheviot Hills.

Therefore in 2013 Shepherds Walks are running a number of courses to help improve the knowledge and expertise of walkers ranging from basic Map and Compass navigational courses to a two day Outdoor First Aid course which leads to a nationally recognised qualification at the end of it.

Jon Monks, from Shepherds Walks, said ‘We have put a number of new courses in place this year aimed at the independent walker, or the person who walks regularly with friends. We put our own guides and volunteers through many of these courses so for 2013 we thought we should also offer them to the general public’.

As all the Shepherds Walks staff that are tutoring the Map and Compass, Safety in the Hills and the Outdoor First Aid courses are also active members of the Mountain Rescue team they have some great expertise to pass on to the participants.

Jon went on to say ‘For 2013 we have given all our existing courses a new lease of life by taking onboard everything we have learnt over the past 10 years and then added a number of new courses, namely the Safety in the Hills and Outdoor First Aid courses to give a complete one stop shop for those people wanting to improve their outdoor skills in 2013’.

The courses will be running throughout the year.
