Raising money for Spirit Bus
Thu 2nd June 2016
The Spirit Bus has proved a vital lifeline for many of the residents but it receives very little funding.
Shepherds Walks, who are based in Rothbury are using their brand new Coquet Valley Challenge Walk as a fund raising event in aid of The Spirit Bus.
The 13.5 mile Challenge Walk starts and finishes from Rothbury Village centre on Saturday 25th June 2016, there are both guided and self-guided options of the walk available for people to participate in.
After registering at Rothbury the challenge walkers will climb Addycombe Hill to the North of Rothbury before passing along the Cragside Carriageway Drive.
You then pass down Physic Lane to and through Thropton before crossing the valley bottom to Tosson Lime Kiln where they will pass through the first checkpoint.
After this checkpoint it is climbing all the way to the summit of Simonside (984 ft) before passing along the Simonside Ridge to Dove Crag before dropping down to Lordenshaws for checkpoint 2
You will then continue to descend down to Whittondean before passing through Whitton Hillhead before you drop down and follow the River Coquet back into Rothbury.
As participants complete the 13.5 miles challenge walk at their own pace they will pass through checkpoints and snacks and drinks will be available on route.
Once people have registered to take place for the event they will receive a fundraising form so they can raise some money for The Spirit Bus.
Jon Monks, who owns Shepherds Walks said ‘We have utilised this great bus service for a number of years now and by using our challenge walk as a way to raise money for this vital service is great. I very much hope all the locals will support the event and help raise some money for the Spirit Bus’.
