item overview
A path for all seasons The Roman Ring runs parallel and to the south of Hadrian's Wall between Lanercost Priory and Halton Chesters. When walked in conjunction with the National Trial this makes a grand round walk equal in distance to the entire coast-to-coast Trail.
The 20-mile long Moss Troopers’ Trail, a path for fair seasons, strides out into the wilder country immediately north of the Whin Sill, from Carvoran to Newbrough.
By combining several north/ south link routes the visitor may take several short circular walking breaks, or indulge in a more leisurely exploration, not tied to the artificially tight schedule the coast-to-coast march imposes.
Created as a green trail alternative, this guide is a response to the concern that Hadrian¹s Wall Path has two innate flaws. That it concentrates a four-seasons tide of walkers directly upon vulnerable archaeology and that it distances the walking visitor from the depth and diversity of cultural landscapes held within Hadrian¹s Wall Country.
