This walk takes in the lovely area to the South of Alston, Cumbria. You start off by following the River South Tyne, before climbing up on to the lower ground of Alston Moor. From here you are treated to some spectacular views of both the higher ground all around you and the river down below.

High Street is one of my favourite walks in the Lake District. From Haweswater you have a steep, but spectacular ridge climb to the summit of High Street where you are treated to some lovely views of Blea Water, Mardale Head and Haweswater.

Ennerdale Water is as far as you get off the beaten track in the western fells and valleys, as you will find. Having made the effort you will find it one of the most alluring of the lakes with it’s quiet two and a half-mile length lined by crags and dominated at the head by the dramatic height of the mountain Pillar.
