This lovely walk rewards you with some spectacular views of both Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake, with the mountain of Skiddaw standing proudly to the North. It is one of the more popular walks in the Lake District and you are treated to some superb views.
Most people climb up and down the badly eroded path from Hawes End, but this wonderful circular walk makes sure you are facing the best views whilst up at height, while everybody else will have their backs to it. Not only will you appreciate the views better, but also the climb this walk takes is far easier than the straight up and down route.
The rocky summit of Cat Bells treats you to some fantastic views of the surrounding area and with the footing all being good throughout the walk it makes it one of the most accessible viewpoints in the Lake District.
As you will be climbing to 1481 feet please be prepared. Good shoes and waterproofs are essential.
shepherd's notes
