This is one of the best medium length walks in Northumberland that starts with a nice gentle climb up to 212 metres (700 ft) at Whitton Hillhead where beautiful views of the Simonside Hills to the south and Thropton the the south can be seen. A superb walk that is not too strenious.

This is a superb example of some of the pleasant walks we have in Northumberland. It gives you beautiful views of Rothbury and the surrounding hills. The walk begins in Rothbury and follows the old carriageway of Cragside Estate, the famous home of Sir William Armstrong.

It leaves the crowded areas of Kielder well behind as you gradually climb up through the forest to some undiscovered places of tranquillity, with just the trickle of the burn in the background for company.
