Walk 39 - Howick

A lovely circular walk takes in a great section of the Northumberland Coastal Path.

walk summary

This circular walk takes in a great section of the Northumberland Coastal Path and also some very picturesque countryside near to Howick Hall.

shepherd's notes

On this walk you pass the remains of an ancient hut.

The site of this ancient hut was discovered when amateur archaeologists found flint tools eroding from a nearby cliff.  This discovery led to much work being done on the site over the summers of 2000 and 2002 and it was discovered that the hut was inhabited in 7800 BC (Stone Age), making this area one of the earliest occupied sites in Northumberland.
