I am a full time hill shepherd, married to Jane and have two children Lois (5 years) and Harry (2 years). I have worked and lived in Northumberland for ten years and was educated at Lancashire College of Agriculture where I studied for three years to achieve a National Diploma in Agriculture.

I shepherd on a farm just South of the Simonside Hills in Northumberland, so I am the lucky one who gets the great view of Simonside everyday, when I go out to work. Most people would do anything for an office with a view like that.

As a keen walker I have always noticed the lack of walks in the area. As a personal hobby I started writing down my walks as I actually walked them and then researched them both on the Internet and at local libraries.

As I am also interested in computers I created a small website and put my first four walks on it in November 1999. As you can see the website has grown out of all recognition. Originally the site just contained walks in the Rothbury area of Northumberland, but in December 2000 I redesigned the site to cover the whole of Northumberland. Then in 2003 the web site was again updated to include walks in Cumbria and the Borders.

Since the launch of my first site I have sold thousands of walking guides all over the world. The walks have been recommended and featured in a number of publications, and I have been interviewed on both television and national radio.

What makes my walks quite unique is that I write them all from a shepherd’s perspective. As I live and work in rural Northumberland I try to incorporate my knowledge of the countryside and the way it is worked into each walking guide. I aim to make every walk a better experience for those exploring the different areas.
