Coastal Challenge 2013

Coastal Challenge 2013

Tue 7th May 2013

Just under 300 people signed up to do the third Northumberland Coastal Challenge this year and what a day.

After a damp start the walkers and runners became bathed in lovely spring sunshine as they took on the 26.2 miles along one of the best coastlines in the country.

After checking in at Alnmouth all the walkers got bussed upto Budle Bar, just north of Bamburgh then they followed the Northumberland Coastal Path all the way back to Alnmouth, passing through Bamburgh, Seahouses, Newton, Craster and Boulmer before finally getting back to Alnmouth.

People of all ages took on this epic challenge with many people raising money for charities close to their heart.

Please enjoy the images and YouTube film and I very much hope you can join us in 2014.

Time lapse video taken during the morning check in.

Have you ever thought what goes on when all the runners and walkers go home after the Coastal Challenge Walk. 22 seconds gives you an insight what we do at 8.00 pm.

Hi there. Will you be publishing times/placings like last year? Great day by the way. See you at Crag side.

I am an experienced marathon and ultramarathon runner. Following a severe injury last December I started Nordic walking to help me recuperate. Best decision I ever made, as my fitness is steadily improving and yesterdays event has given a tremendous boost to my morale .The Challenge allowed me to enjoy the company of others ; to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings ; and to acknowledge the work and effort that goes into the organisation , supervision and support of what is a great event . Thank you.

Just to say a huge thank you to all involved in the walk yesterday - we had a great day & a lovely sense of achievement. We werent the first back by a long way but went at our own pace and amazingly finished comfortably with no blisters/sore feet. Feeling great today after a hot bath & good nights sleep & no aches/pains!It was our first big walk and we hadnt done much walking in a long time before we started training. We were really impressed by the organisation which was very efficient, calm and friendly. The people on the checkpoints were, without exception, great always checked we were ok, offered refreshments and encouraged us along the way. They were very discreet in the way they observed & looked after the walkers which was much appreciated.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for yesterday, the walk was fantastic, it was very well organised and we really appreciated the great reception at the finish line! It was the first time we have completed the challenge and while we found it hard we are already talking about doing it again next year.

Brilliant walk. Really enjoyed it this year. I'm grateful you arranged for a gorgeous sunny afternoon. A big improvement on the wet and windy one last year.

Great organisation for the day, excellent volunteers cheering us on as we got to each checkpoint. Very welcome cup of tea at checkpoint 2 as well as Haribo (as long as you got there before Jon and Harry!). Thankfully the weather was better than the year before and this made for a much more enjoyable experience. I Nordic walked about half of the walk and especially appreciated the beach walking. More of this would be great please.

Having Harry (not sure he actually needs the loud hailer though), Jane and the lady from Diabetes UK cheering us to the finish made me put a spurt on and run the last little bit and beat Martin! Woohoo! I was so emotional at the end and the tea and cake from Mountain Rescue were so fantastic.

I also love the colour of the t-shirts this year.

Well done to everyone involved with Shepherds Walks for another brilliant event.
