walk notes

We leave the quiet market town of Wolsingham and after crossing the river Wear climb onto heathery moorlands which afford lovely views of Weardale. We pass the famous local landmark – the elephant trees – which can be seen from all points and then drop down to the valley and return to our starting point via riverside paths which run parallel to the Weardale railway.

The route is mainly on well defined moorland tracks, easy field paths and minor roads.
