walk notes

After meeting at Newburn Country Park you will have a short transfer (included in the price) to Segedunem for the start of the days walk.

This almost level section of the walk always stays close to the River Tyne reveals the industrial past of Tyneside taking in the industrial river, Walker Riverside Park and St Peterís Basin before reaching the Tyne Bridges.

The first one, the Millennium Eye which provides access to The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts for refreshments. On past the six other historic bridges, and Sunday quayside market, towards the now preserved Dunston Staithes at the mouth of the River Team on the Gateshead side of the Tyne behind which was the Garden Festival site in 1990.

The redeveloped Newburn Riverside Business Park was once the site of the massive Armstrong Works which in the 1860ís employed 20,000 men who lived mainly in the Scotswood area which we will pass through at the end of this section of the walk.
