walk notes

This walk takes its name from the Red Kites (those magnificent birds of prey which were re-introduced to the area in 2004-6) and  initially follows the disused railway through the lower Derwent Valley - where there is a beautiful mixture of mature woodlands, wetlands, wildlife and open countryside together with areas of historical and heritage interest. The path then heads through Chopwell Woods to Spen Banks Wood and on to Barlow and Thornley Woods.

The trail is predominantly on well-defined footpaths and quiet country lanes with very limited ascents.

(Whilst sighting Kites is not guaranteed it would be very unusual not to see some)
