Coquet Valley Challenge Walk

Coquet Valley Challenge Walk
Sat 23rd July 2022

A superb 13.5 mile challenge walk takes in some of the best landscape Northumberland has to offer.

After registering at Rothbury the challenge walk climbs up Addycombe Hill to the North of Rothbury before passing along the Cragside Carriageway Drive.

You then pass down Physic Lane to and through Thropton before crossing the valley bottom to Tosson Lime Kiln (Checkpoint 1).

After the checkpoint, it is climbing all the way to the summit of Simonside (984 ft) before passing along the Simonside Ridge to Dove Crag before dropping down to Lordenshaws (Checkpoint 2).

You continue to descend down to Whittondean before passing through Whitton Hillhead before you drop down and follow the River Coquet back into Rothbury.

The route is good underfoot. Waymarkers will also be in place to make for easy navigation.

As you complete the 13.5 miles challenge walk at your own pace you will pass through checkpoints and snacks and drinks will be available on route.

This challenge walk is dog-friendly, please do bring your dog along on the walk.

Please do book early to avoid disappointment.

Thank you for another wonderfully organised event. It's great to see you have weathered the Covid storm despite zero Government assistance. Loved the route and thoroughly enjoyed the walk even though the weather tried to kill us.

Wow - the 2021 walk was the toughest 13.5 miles I have ever walked, but that was only because it was 28 Celsius and blazing sunshine. A great walk with some fantastic views earned by some steep climbs. Well worth it if you can manage the hills. I might need another few weeks before I can bring myself to book for next year thought! As always, great organisation and support from the lovely volunteers.
